Our story: Bloom began in 2008, sparked by the Occupy Movement, Arab Spring, and visions from plant medicine experiences for the future of society. Before algorithms divided humanity, we gathered through in-person skill shares and deep dialogue - artists, business and community leaders, government workers, and visionaries united by a passion for thinking big and "doing it together".

How We Fund Communities: Retroactive Public Goods Funding

Bloom uses Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RetroPGF) - a revolutionary model that rewards proven impact rather than proposals. Unlike traditional philanthropy that requires lengthy grant applications, our regenerative economic protocol funds communities after they've demonstrated results on their own terms.

Diagram showing the cycle of regenerative actions: Local Hubs organize actions → Impact reporting → Verification → Rewards distributed → Individuals and Local Treasuries → Goods & Services exchanged → back to Local Hubs

How It Works

  1. 1. Communities take action: Local Bloom Chapters organize regenerative work - watershed restoration, food systems, ecosystem protection, and more.
  2. 2. Impact is documented: Communities write impact reports documenting their work and measurable outcomes.
  3. 3. Peer verification: Reviewers verify the reports to ensure accuracy and impact.
  4. 4. Rewards distributed: Funding is distributed quarterly to individuals and Local Bloom treasuries proportional to their contributions (measured in FLO tokens).
  5. 5. Goods & services exchanged: Funds circulate back into local economies, supporting more regenerative actions.

Proven Results

  • • $15,600 distributed to 120 participants across 34 communities
  • • 11,464 hours of regenerative work documented and compensated
  • • $343,920 worth of labor rewarded at grassroots scale
  • • $4 total fees for international payments (vs. $1,000+ with traditional banking)

Key Benefits

  • • No grant applications required—the money follows the work
  • • Rewards proven impact rather than promises
  • • Transparent, blockchain-based tracking of all contributions
  • • Low-cost global distribution enables international reach

Unlike extractive media platforms, Bloom channels financial resources directly into community projects, fueling real-world transformation and catalyzing economies.

How Bloom Makes Money

This is the question we get most.

Bloom is built to sustain itself while supporting local, community-owned projects. To reach that point at scale, we're securing $2M in cooperative-aligned capital to grow the platform and cover operating costs as revenue ramps.

Today, Bloom makes money in three simple ways:

  • Grants
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Investing alongside communities in local businesses and shared supply chains that generate real revenue

All three are active right now. As Bloom grows, these revenue streams fund operations, strengthen local economies, and help bring the practices you see on Bloom into the mainstream.
